Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing deterioration in the reproducibility of image caused by dot flat phenomenon. SOLUTION: A line width detection unit 18 detects a line width of main scanning direction and a line width of sub scanning direction for a line width detection pattern, respectively, based on input image data from a pattern detection portion 16. A line width coordination portion 20 computes a flat ratio (flat degree) between the main scanning direction and sub scanning direction and determines whether there is any dot flat phenomenon in any direction or not, based on the line width of the main scanning direction and the line width of sub scanning direction. An error diffusion portion 12 changes a distribution pattern used for error diffusion processing, and rectifies the input image data so as to correct the dot flat phenomenon.
