Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent pale smoke emission by positively raising intake air temperature by an EGR device when a diesel engine is started at low temperature. SOLUTION: This diesel engine having the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) device recirculating exhaust gas includes: an intake air temperature rise control means recirculating the exhaust gas by the EGR device so that the intake air temperature reaches a predetermined temperature or higher in starting; and an intake air throttle means suppressing intake volume. The intake air temperature rise control means suppresses the intake volume by the intake air throttle means until the intake air temperature reaches the predetermined temperature or higher when the opening of an EGR valve of the EGR device is an allowable opening or more.
