CHARACTER INPUT APPARATUS AND CHARACTER INPUT METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input apparatus for securing the place of a character display area, after sufficiently securing the display area of a character selection screen, and displaying the character display area at an easily viewable location, without requiring a user to change vision while inputting keys. SOLUTION: A character input apparatus includes a liquid crystal monitor 104, which overlappingly displays a character selection screen 101b that displays character selection information for accepting a character input from a user, and a character display area 101a that displays a character selected from the character selection screen 101b; an optical touch panel 102 for detecting a finger of the user; and a controller 105 for controlling the liquid crystal monitor 104 so as to display the character display area 101a, in a location that accords with the location of the finger detected by the optical touch panel 102.
