LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which can be thinned while restraining deterioration in the display quality thereof, enables the input function thereof to be used even in a dark environment and is not restricted in design of an image to be displayed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes: a liquid crystal display panel 20 having a display area 20a in which a plurality of pixels 21 are arrayed two-dimensionally; and a backlight unit 10 which is opposed to one principal surface of the liquid crystal display panel 20 and irradiates the display area 20a of the liquid crystal display panel 20 with light. A plurality of near-infrared elements 22 each of which converts the white light from the backlight unit 10 into near-infrared light being invisible light and emits the converted near-infrared light to the front surface side, and a plurality of optical sensor elements 23 each of which detects the near-infrared light the wavelength of which is converted by the near-infrared element 22, are formed in the display area 20a of the liquid crystal display panel 20.
