Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell having small and lightweight structure suitable for use as a power supply of a potable apparatus, maintaining a quantity of water retained in a membrane electrode assembly and a quantity of heat discharged to the outside from a cathode (air electrode) within proper ranges, and maintaining a stable output for a long period of time. SOLUTION: This fuel cell 1 is equipped with a cell 10 composed of an anode (fuel electrode) 13, a cathode (air electrode) 16, an electrolyte membrane 17 held between them, a fuel supply mechanism 40 disposed on the anode (fuel electrode) side of the cell 10 to supply fuel to the anode (fuel electrode) 13, a moisture retaining layer 50 disposed on the cathode (air electrode) side of the cell 10 and impregnated with water produced in the cathode (air electrode) 16, and a heat dissipating member 70 having a heat dissipating part 71 provided projecting outward to discharge heat generated in the cell 10.
