IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which maintains detection performance for an optical sensor, by adding a mechanism for cleaning the back face of a belt, while avoiding increase in the size of the image forming apparatus, due to the installation space of a cleaning member and cost, increase due to the addition of the cleaning member including the holding mechanism. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a reflection-type optical sensor 36 which detects an image pattern formed on a belt-like image carrier 5 formed from a transparent material, adjusts image quality, on the basis of the result of the detection and is disposed above the image carrier 5 in order to detect the image pattern 37 on the image carrier 5; and a support member 39, which is disposed opposite the reflection-type optical sensor 36 with the image carrier 5 held in between them, reflects light, and supports the image carrier.
