Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer fuel cell whose output less fluctuates than conventional one even when operated conditions are frequently varied, and which can maintain its performance high. SOLUTION: The solid polymer fuel cell includes a high polymer electrolyte membrane, and a gas diffusion electrode bonded to the high polymer electrolyte membrane. The gas diffusion electrode has: conductive particles; a catalyst supported by the conductive particles; a catalyst layer including a thin film containing a proton conductive polymer having an equivalent mass of 250-2,000 g/eq, the thin film layer covering the catalyst at a thickness of 1 μm or smaller; and a gas diffusion layer containing the conductive particles but containing no catalyst, in the order from the side of the high polymer electrolyte membrane.
