Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the start-up time of a system by making it possible to initialize the first region of an installed system memory during the test/initialization time of system firmware, and to start up an operating system (OS) by the system using the first region. SOLUTION: While the system completes the start-up of an OS by using the first region, the second region of the system memory is initialize and tested. After the initialization of the second region has been completed and the OS has started up, an SMI handler is called. The SMI handler simulates the hot add event in a physical memory, and reports this fact to the OS. Thereby, a large number of initialization/test activities of the memory can be carried out in parallel with the initialization/test of the firmware and the start-up process of the OS.
