DICTIONARY CREATING APPARATUS, RECOGNITION APPARATUS, RECOGNITION METHOD, AND RECOGNITION PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a dictionary capacity while demonstrating character recognition capability equivalent to character recognition at the time when probability distribution is used. SOLUTION: A dictionary creating apparatus 10 performs dictionary registration for probability distribution including an average vector and a covariance matrix, without registering eigenvalues and eigenvectors of all character categories, associated with each other, in the dictionary. A plurality of distribution shapes with similar feature vectors among the character categories are bundled and represented by one distribution shape, and the representing distribution shape is correlated with character categories to be bundled and they are subjected to dictionary registration.
