Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a catalyst arranged downstream of a particulate filter catching particulates from causing decreased function by caulking. SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine includes, in an exhaust system, the particulate filter catching particulates in exhaust gas and the exhaust emission control catalyst arranged downstream of the particulate filter. The particulate collection efficiency of the particulate filter is more than 75% with no particulates accumulated. In one embodiment, the particulate filter is so configured that the pore diameters of more than 90% of pores of pores contained in the particulate filter are less than 9 micrometers in a Mercury Porosimetry method.
