HEAD UP DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance visibility by suppressing flickering of an information section of a display image of a head up display. SOLUTION: When an image ahead of its own vehicle is picked up by an image pick-up means, the color of a preceding vehicle 17 existing in the vicinity of the display image 18 in the image is detected by a color detecting means, and the color of the scenery section 18a of the display image 18 is set by a first color setting means based on the color of the preceding vehicle 17. Therefore, even when the preceding vehicle 17 comes in or going out of the information section 18b of the display image 18 resulting from shaking of its own vehicle or a change in the relative position between its own vehicle and the preceding vehicle 17, the flickering of the information section 18b can be suppressed and the visibility can be assured. When a road surface 16 is black and the preceding vehicle 17 is red, the color of the scenery section 18a of the display image 18 is set to be verdigris which is a complementary color of red. Then, the color of the preceding vehicle 17 overlapped with the scenery section 18a becomes the same black as the road surface 16, and the contrast between the two is weakened and the flickering of the information section 18b can be suppressed. Moreover, the color of the information section 18b of the display image 18 is set to be red which is a complementary color of verdigris of the scenery section 18a by a second color setting means.
