CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a target lift amount so as to restrain degrading of fuel economy. SOLUTION: In the vicinity of an internal combustion engine, current environmental conditions (PA, TA) are detected regarding environmental conditions including at least intake air temperature and atmospheric pressure. A memory means for memorizing a map (90) showing a relationship between an intake air amount at the environmental conditions (PA_STD, TA_STD) as a standard and a lift amount of an intake valve is arranged. An obtained intake air amount at the standard environmental conditions is corrected to show a required intake air amount at the current environmental conditions by calculating a required intake air amount (GALTHCMD) required by the internal combustion engine. The target lift amount (ALCMD) corresponding to the compensated required intake air amount is calculated by comparing with the map memorized in the memory means on the basis of the corrected required intake air amount (GALTHCMDF).
