Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purity 2,6-diphenylphenol in a yield higher than that of a conventional method. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 2,6-diphenylphenol includes a first step for producing a 2-cyclohexyl-6-alkylphenol (5) by reacting a 2-alkylphenol (4) with cyclohexene in the presence of an aluminum-based catalyst, and a second step for obtaining the 2,6-diphenylphenol (6) by dehydrogenating the obtained 2-cyclohexyl-6-alkylphenol (5) in the presence of a palladium catalyst or a platinum catalyst as shown in reaction formula (7) (wherein, R5is a phenyl group or a cyclohexyl group).
