PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor capable of improving assembling workability by facilitating the immersing work of a brush into a brush box. SOLUTION: In the electric motor, the brush box is inwardly mounted with a brush in an energized state through a compressed coil spring 23 so as to be protrudable/retractable, and the brush is brought into sliding contact with a commutator equipped on an armature to supply electric power. The compressed coil spring 23 is in a state that the free length L2 thereof is set to the length enabling the brush to come into sliding contact with the commutator by a predetermined pressing force. In this state, at least one end turn part 71 having no influence on spring characteristics of the compressed coil spring 23 is displaced to the inside in the radial direction of an end part 72a of an effective winding part 72 or the outside in the radial direction thereof for winding therearound, and then formed to be flush with the end part 72a of the effective winding part 72.
