Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane-electrode stack with superior reliability, capable of readily and fully reducing the variations in the tightening pressure, between local areas on the electrode surface of a gas diffusion electrode. SOLUTION: The membrane-electrode stack is provided with a polymer electrolyte membrane 1, a first gas diffusion electrode 6a, a second gas diffusion electrode 6b, and a first reinforcing film 7a, which is formed so as to have an aperture and is arranged so as to contact one of main face of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1. The first gas diffusion electrode 6a comprises a first catalyst layer 2a, arranged so as to contact one of the main faces of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1; a second gas diffusion layer 3a arranged so as to cover the first catalyst layer 2a; and a first gas diffusion layer 4a arranged so as to cover the second gas diffusion layer 3a and a part of the main face of the first reinforcing film 7a. The sum combining the thickness of the first catalyst layer 2a and the thickness of the second gas diffusion layer 3a is constituted to be larger than the first reinforcing film 7a.
