Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a breaking part generated on a solidified shell in the inside of a mold as an omen of the breakout with a sufficient accuracy to an early stage, and to simplify the setting of a parameter therefor. SOLUTION: While measuring the temperatures in the inner part of the mold 12 time sequentially with thermo-couples 20 and 22 under a meniscus, the inner part temperatures detected by the thermo-couples 20 and 22 at optional time are set to TU0and TD0, respectively. After calculating TU0-TD0=ΔT0, the inner part temperatures detected by the thermo-couples 20 and 22, after a predetermined calculating cycle lapse from the time t0, are set to TU1and TD1, respectively, and TU1-TD1=ΔT1is calculated and the temperature ratio R is calculated with ΔT0/ΔT1, and when this temperature ratio R becomes less than the threshold SR=0.8, the breaking part generated on the billet 42 in the inside of the mold 12, is detected, as the omen of the breakout.
