Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing steel with adjusted surface carbon concentration by which the surface carbon concentration of the steel can be easily uniformized. SOLUTION: Carbon concentration adjusting gas containing the predetermined carbon compound gas component is supplied to steel, the equilibrium reaction is established between the carbon in the steel and the carbon concentration adjusting gas. By the establishment of the equilibrium reaction, in a portion where the surface carbon concentration of the steel is saturated, the decarburization reaction is generated in which the carbon compound gas component is generated from the carbon in the steel, and in a non-saturated portion, the carburization reaction is generated in which carbon is supplied into the steel from the carbon compound gas component. By the decarburization reaction and the carburization reaction reversible to each other, the surface carbon concentration of the steel is adjusted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
