Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it takes time for a battery discharged to some extent to increase the charging on-period voltage to a certain voltage level or above since the open voltage when the battery is connected to a charger is low and a completely discharged battery is charged with the possibility of liquid spill since the charging on-period voltage does not increase to such a value. SOLUTION: The charger calculates the internal impedance of a battery based on a voltage difference of the battery between the battery voltage during a charging current on-period and the battery voltage during a charging current-off period and a charging current to determine a primary battery such as a dry cell or a battery which has been degraded by cycle or a battery which has become inactive after a long-time unused period or for other reasons. Based on a relationship with the open voltage of the battery, if the battery is judged an inactive battery after a long-time unused period or for other reasons, it is continuously charged to reduce the degradation by cycle.
