OBJECT DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detector for detecting an object around a door that is not easily affected by an environmental change and accurately detects the object around the door. SOLUTION: A camera 11 for photographing the circumference of a door 91 in a vehicle 90 and a light reception member 15 having light absorption properties that is a target region of object detection are arranged opposingly vertically while holding the door 91 in between, and light is emitted toward the light reception member 15 photographed by the camera 11 from an illumination means 12. While there are no objects on the light reception member 15, the background image of the light reception member 15 is acquired in advance by photographing using the camera 11. When detecting an object, light is applied by the illumination means 12 simultaneously with photographing by the camera 11, the target image of object detection in the light reception member 15 is acquired and both the images are compared. Based on the comparison result, the presence or absence of an object between the light reception member 15 and the camera 11 is determined, thus detecting an object around the door 91 photographed in the target image.
