Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control method and an engine control device capable of satisfying the exhaust emission, the fuel consumption and the sense of incongruity of an occupant in each high dimension, in a state where the temperature of an exhaust gas purification catalyst is low when two kinds of fuels are used according to the manual selection of the occupant. SOLUTION: An engine EG selectively uses a first fuel (for example, gasoline) and a second fuel (for example, hydrogen) with relatively excellent exhaust emission compared with the first fuel by manually operating a switch 35 by an occupant. When the temperature of an exhaust gas purification catalyst 21 is below the predetermined value, the second fuel is automatically set preferentially to the fuel selected by the switch 35. When the temperature of the exhaust gas purification catalyst 21 is below the predetermined value, and when the automatically set fuel is different from the fuel selected by the switch 35, the operational state of the engine is changed so that the temperature rise of the exhaust gas purification catalyst 21 is promoted compared with a case where the automatically set fuel is the same as the fuel selected by the switch (for example, enriching the air-fuel ratio).
