PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate device, capable of accurately detecting an illicit action such that two or more users closely pass through a passage by use of one pass ticket and preventing such an illicit action. SOLUTION: In the automatic ticket checking machine 1, an image processing part 8 fetches a photographic image taken by a camera 9 when a user reaches a no-ticket detection position, and detects the number of users photographed therein. The ticket checking machine 1 opens a door 6a, when the detected number of users is one, to permit the user to pass through a ticket checking path. When the detected number of users is two or more, the ticket checking machine determines tailgating by the users and closes the door 6a. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
