Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce shift in image forming position which depends on the light quantity of a light beam. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus where the light quantity of a light beam being used for forming a latent image is switched depending on the difference of resolution, lasers 101 to 104 emit a light beam for forming a latent image on a photosensitive drum 203. A light beam thus emitted is used for scanning by a polygon mirror 105 and the scanned light beam is detected by a BD sensor 106. When controlling the emission timing of the lasers 101 to 104 depending on the timing the light beam is detected, a timing control section 204 selects a suitable emission timing from a table in a storage 205 depending on the light quantity of the light beam or the resolution.
