PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide configurations for correctly recognizing characters in contact with each other. SOLUTION: A line drawing obtained by reading a character string is divided into a plurality of parts, and the plurality of parts of the divided line drawing are combined so that a plurality of candidate character strings is obtained, and that one character string is selected from the plurality of candidate character strings. A character line related with the contact of adjacent characters is duplicated, and the character line related with the duplication is included in the elements of the candidate character string. Alternately, the candidate character string obtained by removing the character line related with the contact of the adjacent characters and the candidate character string including the character string are included in the plurality of candidate character strings.
