Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method efficiently producing a terephthalic acid diester by quickly raising reaction temperature to a temperature not lower than a boiling point of an alcohol. SOLUTION: When producing the terephthalic acid diester by carrying out esterification reaction of terephthalic acid with a 1-18C aliphatic monohydric alcohol by a batch method under ordinary pressure, reaction is started by using the terephthalic acid diester produced by the esterification reaction or a reaction mixture obtained by the esterification reaction coexisting in an amount of 1-50 wt.% based on charged total weight to produce the terephthalic acid diester.
