Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing rutile type titanium oxide fine particles having high purity and a high refractive index without using a tin compound or without firing at a high temperature. SOLUTION: The method for producing rutile type titanium oxide fine particles includes steps of: (a) mixing and reacting titanium alkoxide and hydrogen peroxide in a 2 to 50 molar ratio (MHP)/(MTi) of the molar number of hydrogen peroxide (MHP, in terms of H2O2) to the molar number of titanium alkoxide (MTi, in terms of TiO2); and (c) subjecting the mixture to hydrothermal treatment at 100 to 350°C, wherein the method includes a step of (b) ageing the mixture at 50 to 100°C, subsequent to the step (a). The obtained rutile type titanium oxide fine particles have an average particle width (W) ranging from 2 to 50 nm, an average length (L) ranging from 2 to 500 nm and an aspect ratio (W)/(L) ranging from 1 to 10.
