Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device and an image display device capable of improving thinning and suppressing luminance unevenness. SOLUTION: The surface light source device comprises: light sources 5, 5, ... arranged opposite to a reflecting surface 4a of a reflecting member 4, a light control member 6 formed of a transparent material, arranged so as to face the reflecting surface on the opposite side of the reflecting member interposing light source, and guiding the light emitted from light source into the prescribed direction; and a concavo-convex shape 8 formed on a plane surface, disposed on the surface opposite to the surface facing the reflecting surface of the light control member. The concavo-convex shape is constituted by arranging a plurality of at least one kind of cross-sectional shapes having an axis of symmetry or a plane of symmetry. The axis of symmetry or the plane of symmetry of the concavo-convex shape is inclined by a specified angle in the alignment direction of the light control member and the reflecting member.
