Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suitable charging roll for a contact type DC voltage application method which can suppress occurrence of horizontal stripes and with no variation in the charging function. SOLUTION: The charging roll includes a shaft body 1, a resistance adjusting layer 2 formed directly or through another layer on the outer periphery of the shaft body 1 and a protection layer 3 formed on the outer periphery of the resistance adjusting layer 2. The protection layer 3 comprises compositions including the following (A) to (C): (A) binder polymer; (B) porous particles with specific surface area of 9m2/g or more; and (C) conductive agent.
