Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for digital filing, which allow a user to have complete control over electronic storage and retrieval of user's documents from a standard desktop computer, by using a standard web browser application. SOLUTION: The apparatus for digital filing comprises: a digital filing application which creates a unique identifier of a paper-based document and is executed by a processor 200 for storing the unique identifier in one of image index database records; a desktop label dispenser 202 coupled to the processor 200; a label which has the unique identifier of the paper-based document, is printed by the desktop label dispenser, and is attached to the paper-based document; and a document input mechanism 110 which creates a digital image of the paper-based document after creation of the unique identifier of the paper-based document.
