Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ingot by an ESR (Electro-Slag Remelting) process by which an ingot having satisfactory surface properties can be obtained by regulating a melting current and a mold size in accordance with the melting point of a melting material. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an ingot by an electroslag remelting process, when a steel or an Ni based alloy is subjected to electroslag remelting, provided that the melting point of a melting material is defined as TML(°C), melting current value is defined as i(kA) and the diameter of a mold is defined as D(cm), melting conditions are regulated so as to satisfy relations expressed in equations (1) and (2), and a remelting operation is performed; wherein, TML≤T-150≤1750 (1), and T=1130×(i/D)+1450 (2).
