START DEVICE FOR ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device preventing a pinion from disengaging from a ring gear even if a crankshaft is rotated by combustion start. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a combustion start means S5, a starter including a motor and an engaging/disengaging mechanism, a pre-engagement means S3 making the pinion engage with the ring gear before combustion start by a combustion start means S5, a motor torque control means S5 carrying out torque control with using the motor to make rise rate of ring gear rotation speed raised by combustion start by the combustion start means S5 same as rise rate of pinion rotation speed, a judgment means S6 judging if combustion start by the combustion start means S5 is failed or successful, and a starter start means S7 stopping torque control with using the motor by the motor torque control means S5 and starting the engine by the motor when combustion start is failed.
