Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir coating method for easily applying coating to the inner surface of a hole part by using a friction stir technique. SOLUTION: The friction stir coating method is provided in which a base material 1 and a rod 2 are relatively rotated while the rod 2 is force-fitted into a hole part 1H formed in the base material 1 in the axial direction of the hole part 1H, wherein the hole part 1H is defined by an inner circumferential surface 1S having a shape of an inner circumferential surface of a cylinder and has a round cross-sectional shape, and wherein the rod 2 has a surface layer made of a material with lower high-temperature deformation resistance than that of the inner circumferential surface 1S of the hole part 1H, and has an outer diameter larger than the inner diameter of the hole part 1H. The surface layer of the rod 2 softens and flows with heat generation due to friction and, therefore at least the surface layer of the rod 2 is coated on the inner circumferential surface 1S of the hole part 1H.
