APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IMAGE QUALITY EVALUATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for image quality evaluation capable of calculating quantified data for an image which people actually recognize. SOLUTION: The image quality evaluation apparatus 1 evaluates image quality of a color area using a color appearance model. The image quality evaluation apparatus 1 includes a chromatic adaptation unit 100 for forming a chromatic adaptation result on the color area, a dynamic adaptation unit 200 for forming the result of light adaptation to the color area by receiving the result of chromatic adaptation, a calculation unit 300 for calculating information on the color appearance of the color area based on the result of light adaptation, and a color appearance predictor 400 for forming a color space that corresponds to the color area based on the information on the color appearance, calculating the size of the color space, and calculating clearness, viewing angle characteristics, gradation characteristics, and color difference of the color area in the color space.
