Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of improving image reading accuracy, and preventing degradation of strength of manuscript stand glass (mounting base glass); and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: Images of a manuscript D2 mounted on the manuscript stand glass 2 and a manuscript D1 transported along the manuscript stand glass 2 by a sheet transport part are read by an image sensor 101. The manuscript D1 which is transported along the manuscript stand glass 2 by the sheet transport part and of which the image is read by the image sensor 101 is guided toward the sheet transport part side by a manuscript scooping part 6, and the manuscript scooping part 6 is formed integrally with the manuscript stand glass 2.
