Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, which has high power generating characteristics in an environment across from low humidity to high humidity, and in which characteristic reduction of an electrode is hard to occur even when a shortage of a fuel occurs. SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly for the polymer electrolyte fuel cell 10 includes: an anode 15 having an anode catalyst layer 11 containing an anode catalyst and an ion-exchange resin; a cathode 16 having a cathode catalyst layer 13 containing a cathode catalyst and the ion-exchange resin; and a polymer electrolyte membrane 17 arranged between the anode 15 and the cathode 16. In the anode catalyst, platinum or a platinum alloy is carried by a carbon carrier, and a carried amount of the platinum or the platinum alloy of the anode catalyst is 1 to 25 wt.%. In the anode catalyst layer 11, particulates are contained which are composed of at least one selected from a group of iridium oxide, iridium, ruthenium oxide, and ruthenium.
