In an extension step, upper portions directly above the jacks are sequentially suspended and cut for extension. In the jackdown type demolition method, the contraction step and the extension one are repeated, so that respective stories Fj (j>d) connected to the columns P1-Pm above the demolition work story Fd can be gradually lowered to sequentially demolish skeletons (the floor beam, the floor board 3 or a wall 4) except the columns P on the respective lowered stories Fj by the demolition work story Fd. Preferably, restraining devices 34 for connecting the floor beam or the floor board 3 with the columns P1-Pm are provided in gaps d between all the columns P1-Pm and the floor beam or the floor board 3 on the demolition work story Fd, respectively.
