DOCUMENT CARRYING AND READING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document carrying and reading device capable of effectively removing a foreign matter in a read area in a light transmission member without requiring any new mechanisms for removing the foreign matter and hence without upsizing the device. SOLUTION: The document carrying and reading device 100 has: a document carrying section 200 for carrying a document OR; a document read section 300 for reading the document OR carried by the document carrying section 200 via the read area P on read glass 7; and a control section 400 for controlling the document carrying section 200. The control section 400 controls the document carrying section 200 for advancing the document OR in a direction X' opposite to a conveyance direction X when reading the document OR and for allowing the document OR to abut on at least the read area P on the read glass 7, thus executing a foreign matter removal process for removing the foreign matter T in the read region P on the read glass 7.
