Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cogeneration system and an operation control method therefor capable of securely preventing increase in electric power consumption (electric power demand) and excess over contract demand when a heat source machine such as a fuel cell is started. SOLUTION: The cogeneration system is provided with a means (1) for outputting heat and electricity by fuel; electric power equipment (50); the means (1) for outputting heat and electricity and/or a means (75) for measuring electric power consumption of the electric power equipment (50); and a control means (40). The control means (40) performs control to prevent start of the means (1) for outputting heat and electricity, when a total of electric power required for start of the means (1) and electric power consumption at that time exceeds usable electric power at start of the means (1) for outputting heat and electricity by fuel; and to start the means (1) when the total of electric power required for the start and electric power consumption at that time is usable electric power or lower.
