Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-purity and polymerization-inhibitor free diaryl carbonate of extremely high polymerization reactivity suitable as a raw material for preparing an aromatic polycarbonate by a melt transesterification method and capable of reducing the amount of polymerization catalyst to be added, and a method for preparing the same. SOLUTION: Disclosed are, (1) a diaryl carbonate with the content of aromatic monohydroxy compounds reduced to 100 ppm or lower by distillation, and (2) a method for preparing a diaryl carbonate characterized by reducing the content of aromatic monohydroxy compounds in a purified diaryl carbonate to 100 ppm or lower upon obtaining the purified diaryl carbonate from the bottom of a distillation column by distilling a crude diaryl carbonate comprising aromatic monohydroxy compounds.
