Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing simply a vinylbenzylated poly(phenylene ether) compound that is curtailed in the content of a halogenide ion. SOLUTION: The method comprises a step of reacting a poly(phenylene ether) which has a repeating unit expressed by general formula (1) and also has a phenolic hydroxyl group at the end, with a vinylbenzyl halide in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide in a mixed solvent consisting of water and an organic solvent that contains 50% by weight or more of an aromatic hydrocarbon, and then a step of washing the reaction solution obtained with a mixed liquor consisting of water and an aliphatic alcohol.
