SOLUTION: This high pressure material strength testing device 010 has a pressure vessel 120 for storing a specimen 160; a support member 130 for supporting one end of the specimen 160; a pull rod 140 for supporting the other end of the specimen 160, and applying tensile or compressive stress to the specimen 160; an actuator (not shown) for controlling the movement of the pull rod 140; a pressure vessel pedestal 150 having a through hole 151 into which the pull rod 140 is inserted; an external pressure vessel 020 constituted by fixing bellows 022 on a discoid support member 021 fixed to the pull rod 140 and pressure vessel pedestals 150, 150a; a pressurized gas supply tube (first gas supply means) 170 for sending pressurized gas into the pressure vessel 120; and an inert gas supply tube (second gas supply means) 030 for sending pressurized inert gas into the external pressure vessel 020.
