Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe fuel cell system effectively treating excess hydrogen and suppressing exhaust of the excess hydrogen. SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is equipped with a fuel cell having a plurality of unit cells each having a positive electrode reducing oxygen, a negative electrode oxidizing hydrogen, and a solid electrolyte membrane interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a hydrogen supply passage for supplying hydrogen to each of the plurality of unit cells, and constituted by connecting at least a part of the plurality of unit cells in series or in parallel; a hydrogen supply device connected to the fuel cell; a hydrogen removing means removing at least a part of hydrogen in the hydrogen supply passage; and a control means controlling hydrogen removing in the hydrogen removing means based on a detecting signal from a detecting means detecting the hydrogen supply amount in the hydrogen supply device.
