Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the displacement of an ink ribbon after detecting it using an inexpensive general sensor, while preventing continuous printing with the ink ribbon excessively displaced and thus broken. SOLUTION: A transmissive photo sensor is provided on an ink ribbon travel passage with the ink ribbon passing through a ribbon guide for detecting the displacement of the ink ribbon and the breakage of the ink ribbon. When the displacement is detected, printing is interrupted for a predetermined time in the state of discontinuing the travel of the ink ribbon, and then the ink ribbon is made to travel at a higher speed to resolve the displacement.
