Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that an electrode contact point quality monitoring system, which monitors the contact point area of an electrode in contact with a patient and always drops the power source of an electrosurgical generator when the contact point area becomes insufficient, keeps the case of burning of the patient drastically decreased, but needs a special disposable electrode and an additional circuit in the generator leading to a higher cost per processing. SOLUTION: A reusable electrosurgical return electrode pad is for use in electrosurgery. In one embodiment, it includes a presentation or working surface area lying in a range of from about 100 square centimeters to about 20,000 square centimeters. In another embodiment, the working surface area is at least as large as that of a projection of about half of the profile of the trunk of a patient. By presenting a very large working surface area, the need for direct contact or contact through conducting gels is eliminated. By employing washable surface areas, it is easily made ready cleanable and reusable. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
