SHIELD MACHINE AND METHOD FOR FREEZING INSIDE OF CHAMBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine which can properly eliminate a malfunction in a chamber by inhibiting the inflow of groundwater into an external cylinder section without performing soil improvement by chemical grouting, and a method for freezing the inside of the chamber of the shield machine. SOLUTION: A cutter head 11 and a partition plate 12 of the shield machine 1 are provided with a freezing pipe 20 for freezing sediment and slurry in the chamber 13. When an intake 12A fitted with a mud discharge pipe 16 is clogged by the mixing of foreign matter X such as a clod and a rock into the chamber 13, a freezing liquid is circulated and supplied through the freezing pipe 20, so as to freeze the slurry around the foreign matter X and form an ice valve B.
