CLEANING DEVICE FOR TRANSFER MEMBER, CLEANING METHOD FOR TRANSFER MEMBER, IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device for transfer member, provided in an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a facsimile, or a printer to remove toner by both an image carrier and a cleaning member, to provide a cleaning method for transfer member using this cleaning device for transfer member, and to provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method using the device and method. SOLUTION: The cleaning device 99 for a transfer member 17 for transferring a toner image on an image carrier 11 to the other medium, which is disposed oppositely to the image carrier 11, has a cleaning member 18 for cleaning off deposits adhered to the transfer member 17, which is disposed oppositely to the transfer member 17; a first potential difference assignment means 88 which assigns a first potential difference for moving the deposits adhered to the transfer member 17 to the image carrier 11; and a second potential difference assignment means 89 which assigns a second potential difference for moving the deposits adhered to the transfer member 17 to the cleaning member 18.
