Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add braking function at low cost, control braking force by timing control of a variable valve train, and inhibit abrupt deceleration at the beginning of braking. SOLUTION: This engine includes a variable valve train 4 provided with pistons 10, 11 connected to valves acting as an intake valve 2 or an exhaust valve 3, control chambers 14, 15 comprising piston insertion holes 12, 13 in which the pistons are inserted, a control part 16 changing valve close timing by controlling introduction and discharge of hydraulic fluid in the control chambers. The control part 16 controls discharge timing of hydraulic fluid of the intake valve side control chamber 14 of a cylinder, arbitrarily changes introduction timing of hydraulic fluid to the exhaust valve side control chamber 15 of another cylinder, and makes lift timing of the exhaust valve 3 variable to provide braking force of compressed pressure release type engine brake.
