OPTICAL DISK DEVICE AND METHOD FOR REPRODUCING OPTICAL DISK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and a method for reproducing an optical disk, which stably reproduces a defective DVD-ROM which has the shortest pit size smaller than a value defined in the standard. SOLUTION: The optical disk device has an optical pickup which is provided with a first laser diode outputting laser beams of a first wavelength to the optical disk and a second laser diode outputting laser beams of a second wavelength shorter than the first wavelength to the optical disk, a discrimination means which discriminates the kind of the optical disk, a selection means which selects a laser diode to use according to the kind of the optical disk, a reproduction means which reproduces information recorded in the optical disk, and a detection means which determines whether reproduction is not completed normally resulting in a reproduction error. After determining that the reproduction error occurs, the selection means changes the kind of the laser diode and reproduces the information again. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
