AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM AND AUTHENTICATION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system and method using a challenge response system constituted by adding a challenge response-type authentication function to an existing system. SOLUTION: The system comprises a portable terminal carried by a user of a client PC 101 and independently connectable to a server 103. The server 103 has functions of transmitting challenge data with identifier to the client PC 101 for authentication processing, receiving response data with identifier from the client PC 101, extracting corresponding challenge data, and performing authentication by the extracted challenge data and the received response data. The client PC 101 has functions of receiving and displaying the challenge data with identifier from the server 103, and the portable terminal has functions of acquiring the challenge data with identifier received by the client PC 101, generating response data with identifier from the acquired challenge data with identifier, and transmitting it to the server.
