Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing device capable of simplifying user's operation needed for performing a recording/reproducing, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: When a state where no card is loaded on a video camera main body is changed to a state where a card is loaded, FLAG changes from 1 to 0 through steps S1002 to S1004. Thus, the loading of a card is recognized by the change of the FLAG. When no image data is present in a card 13 in step S1007, whether an operation mode is a photographing operation mode is judged (step S1008). If a photographing operation mode is not set, for example, if a reproducing operation mode is set, irrespective of the operation of the changeover switch of the operation mode, the operation mode is forcibly changed to a photographing operation mode (step S1009).
