IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND CONTROL METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a high-definition image by highly accurately detecting a calibration pattern and accurately superposing toner images one after another. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus for forming the image on a recording medium includes: an image carrier for carrying a latent image to be formed on the recording medium; a laser scanner for scanning the image carrier with laser beam corresponding to the image and forming the latent image; a correcting means for correcting image distortion caused by the curvature of a scanning line formed by the laser beam; and a control means for controlling the correcting means so as not to correct the image distortion caused by the curvature of the scanning line when forming the calibration pattern for adjusting the image writing start positions in a main scanning direction and a sub scanning direction.
